Award-winning artist Penny Billings works in a unique style of contemporary realism. Her luminous oil paintings capture the constantly shifting light and mood of today’s varied American landscape.
A native Bostonian, Billings has been elected to juried artist membership in both the Salmagundi Club and the American Artists Professional League in New York (where she has been honored as an elected Fellow), the Copley Society of Art in Boston (where she serves on the Art Committee), and Oil Painters of America. She is also a member of the California Art Club.
Billings’s luminous oil paintings have been recognized nationally and internationally in juried art competitions, where they have exhibited in one-artist and group shows, including exhibition at the National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club in New York, and at the Boston International Fine Art Show, the Copley Society of Art, the Guild of Boston Artists, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
Her work won the highest award for landscape oil painting in the American Artists Professional League’s 85th Grand National Exhibition in New York. Her paintings have been international finalists many times in The Artist’s Magazine’s Annual Art Competition and in the Art Renewal Center’s International ARC Salon. Billings has won awards at the Audubon Artists’ National Exhibition, the National Arts Club in New York, and the Academic Artists Association’s National Exhibition of Contemporary Realism in Art.
Billings’s work has also been juried into the national annual competitions of Allied Artists of America and the American Impressionist Society. Her paintings were selected several times for the Salon International, a project of the International Museum of Contemporary Masters in Texas, and for the international Laumeister Fine Art Competition at The Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont.
Inspired by the American tonalist master painters who idealized the 19th century countryside, Billings’s atmospheric oil paintings celebrate the serenity of the contemporary American landscape. They grace fine art collections throughout the United States and internationally.
