The shoreline of Cape Cod will serve as the inspirational motif for this class with landscape painter Joseph McGurl. Participants will meet at McGurl’s waterfront studio and then set out by land or sea to the location of choice. The objective of this workshop will be to help the student to better understand the relationship between the field study and its resulting studio landscape. Participants will also investigate the aesthetic issues of painting: composition, color, and drawing. The course will begin with a demonstration in which McGurl will discuss issues which he feels are of importance to the artist. Students will then create their own paintings and receive both individual and group instruction.  Each of McGurl’s paintings is conceived from sketches done on location. He has won numerous awards for these works and has had many successful gallery shows in New York, Boston, California, and Cape Cod. He has been included in several museum shows and his work hangs in prestigious public and private collections throughout the country.
