Plein Air Landscapes in Watercolor
On
location in Sherborn, Massachusetts (one hour southwest of Boston),
participants will work to develop skills in interpreting nature in order to
create unique and personal visual statements in watercolor with instructor Bill
Ternes.
In
this workshop, value, shapes, and color patterns will be explored in a
thoughtful fashion. Procedural concepts will be explored with the goal of creating
pure and stimulating color washes. Bill will demonstrate and critique students’
work at the conclusion of each session.
Fifty years of creating watercolors and oil paintings have honed Bill’s abilities to see and interpret his environment. His direct approach to painting, with emphasis on nature’s luminosity, creates images that are suggested rather than finely delineated. Ternes achieves this unique presentation through the use of strong, bold brush strokes and brilliant, highly saturated hues. Collected internationally, Ternes has had numerous corporate and private patrons, including Fleet Boston Financial Corporation, John Hancock Insurance Co., and Transco Corporation. Recently, Bill was awarded the Silver Medal at the New England Watercolor Show, and was accepted as a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society.
