From Start to Finish: The Studio Painter
This course will focus on the issues of a
studio painter taking his or her ideas, sketches, and reference material and
transforming them into fully conceived works of art. Through group and
individual discussion and studio work we will explore how best to edit and
prioritize issues relevant to each artist’s vision. Those ideas will then be
translated through design by understanding the importance of the value
structure of your image. We will ask questions about appropriate color choices
and in the end explore what kind of atmosphere or mood best punctuates each
artist's idea. Participants should have an idea, some sketches or reference
material, and a working knowledge of their favorite media. Our focus will be on
marrying concept with execution.
