North Shore LandscapesCome paint the golden autumn marshes of Essex County, en plein air. Each day begins with a brief demonstration of Janis’ plein air technique, painting with a palette knife, with ongoing commentary and interaction with the workshop group. Dialogue and questions will be encouraged. The class will then set up to paint scenes of their liking. Instruction/direction will be available, but not imperative. The focus of this workshop is to ‘see’ en plein air, with a modern approach to paint application, while exploring each individual’s unique painting voice. An interactive, informal discussion/critique will follow each round of completed paintings. Whether novice or seasoned painter, using knife, brush, fingers, or trowel, come paint! This course is a place to experiment and grow!
Janis Sanders is an accomplished oil painter, who has won awards for his unique painting style. His work is done with a palette knife, often en plein air. He melds elements of American Realism with Modernism/Impressionism for a dramatically contemporary visual result. He works to convey light glancing on a surface to communicate the spirit of place of each singular American setting. He paints muscularly, enthusiastically, vigorously outdoors throughout the year, from the rugged coast of Maine to the verdant marshes of the North Shore of Boston, to the quiet sand dunes of the Outer Cape. Janis is represented in galleries throughout New England. His work hangs in prestigious collections in the United States as well as overseas.
