Christopher Zhang: Images of Tibet

In this solo exhibition, Zhang seeks to
explore the religious and sociological implications of a society sheltered from
the modern world. In his lush images of Tibetan culture, Zhang captures the
spirit of a country immersed in ancient traditions. Inspired by the realist schools of nineteenth
century Russia and Western Europe, Zhang experiments with both highly-rendered
narratives and impressionistic portraits and architecture. Cognizant of the
Tibetan relationship between nature and religion, Zhang captures both ceremony
and landscape, often at times in harmony with one another. “Images of Tibet” reveals
not only the unchanged scenery of an ancient country, but also the gentle
beauty and perseverance of its people.
