Michael Alfano

Artist's Process

Following the traditional methods of sculpting in clay with hand-made tools, Michael Alfano is a sculptor who brings a portrait to life. The finished work is beautifully rendered, capturing not only the likeness but also the presence of the individual.

Michael typically requires three to five sittings with you to complete your portrait, although he can sculpt a portrait from good-quality photographs if necessary. You can meet him at his studio or he will travel to your home or office. At the first session, he will take photographs and measurements of your head and face to ensure the accuracy of the life-size portrait. During the three to four hours of each sitting, Michael will get to know you while the work progresses, helping him to incorporate your personality into the portrait. Between sessions, Michael works on the sculpture in his studio. When you are both satisfied with the clay sculpture, the piece is ready for casting. Your choices of casting material are plaster, cold-cast bronze, or bronze. The entire process usually takes three to six months, but if necessary, shorter timeframes are negotiable.

Financial Arrangement

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required prior to commencement of the commission, with the balance due before delivery. Additional charges apply for distant travel, lodging, and shipping.

Alfano regularly works in sizes from miniature to monumental and will quote a price on any size figurative sculpture project. Duplicates can be made at a reduced price.
