Elaine Franz Witten

Artist's Process

An artist is an interpreter of inspirations which, in Elaine  Franz Witten's case, become tangible sculptural images.  As a bronze sculptor her primary focus is on the creation of beautiful three dimensional forms using the lost wax method of casting.  She utilizes animal, human or other interesting shapes as a vehicle to convey the core of the subject matter and evoke the viewer’s emotions.

Witten's style is realistic, interpretive, sometimes exaggerating or simplifying to achieve her artistic goals.  She strives to create and communicate through sculpture the essence of beautiful forms and the majesty of living creatures.  Through her art, Witten intends to communicate mankind’s nobility and our connectedness to all life.

Witten utilizes sculptural elements, incorporating planes, interesting negative spaces, attention to silhouette, textural contrasts and fluidity of motion, while at the same time capturing the subject matter in gesture, form and spirit.  Many of her sculptures contain “S” curves and triangles as part of their design motif.  Using elements of sculpture passed down through the ages, Witten creates and speaks from her inner voice.
