Artist's Process

Yuka will travel to the client's home for the initial meeting, where she will make sketches and take reference photographs of the subject to be painted. Yuka prefers to work from life, though photographs can be used as a supplement. Her procedure is to develop a full-scale drawing of the subject along with numerous smaller sketches of background elements. This can often be accomplished in two to three sittings. The drawing is then transferred to canvas or wood panel and the painting will be created in her studio and will be delivered upon completion to the client on an agreed upon date.

Yuka was trained under portrait artist, Ronald Sherr, who has painted portraits of current and former presidents. In 2006, Yuka was awarded two grants on portraits from The Art Students League of New York. After studying masterpieces in Spain for 6 months, Yuka set a new goal to begin a career as a portrait artist.
